Eastern Townships, QC
"Located along the serene shores of a lake in Quebec's Eastern Townships, Auberge McGowan offers a tranquil and picturesque backdrop for weddings. This charming venue became the inspiration for a bridal editorial collaboration between myself, wedding planner Maylis from Oui Événements, and florist Alice from Enfants Sauvages. Together, we sought to craft a vision that seamlessly blended the natural beauty of the Eastern Townships wedding venue with a refined and modern aesthetic.
Maylis described her approach to the editorial with a passion for storytelling rooted in place:
"After falling in love with the Auberge McGowan, it was important for me to bring my ideas to life. This place immediately inspired me! On the edge of the lake, I visualized a chic and soft table to blend into the landscape. The whole project revolved around this blue 'toile de Jouy' tablecloth. Why blue? Because it's my favorite color! I wanted to modernize everything with the addition of fruits on the table and pastel colors that remind us of the arrival of summer. Also, to break the overly sophisticated side of the table, the straw placemats bring a summery and more casual touch to the table. I like to draw inspiration from the place to create a universe. The Auberge McGowan has a lot of charm, and I wanted to keep this charm with the table decoration."
For florist Alice, the shoot was a way to bring her Mediterranean heritage into this lakeside setting:
"I grew up on the Côte d'Azur, in the south of France. I'm inspired by Mediterranean architecture, seaside trees, anything that catches the light and dances to the sound of the waves. For this project, it all started with this Toile de Jouy-inspired tablecloth. Historically made by Oberkampf in Jouy-en-Josas between 1760 and 1843, Toile de Jouy is a printed fabric depicting monochrome bucolic scenes, often in blue on an off-white background. For this styled shoot, I wanted to offer an elegant, modern interpretation of a wedding in blue and white, a palette often chosen by my customers. As a florist working exclusively with natural flowers, it's important to note that blue flowers are rare and not available in all seasons. I therefore chose to create a refined setting without blue flowers, while retaining the essence of this palette. A few touches of yellow and apricot add a bright, casual touch. For the cocktail scene, I wanted to create a spectacular centerpiece that would draw the eye without being ostentatious. The large-format stone urn adds a certain presence, and its generous proportions allow for a wide arrangement. It's a focal point with character! I like it best, and it's a nice change from the traditional small arrangements on high cocktail tables. I love this room! I've even kept the tablecloth, which I made to measure, to offer to customers wishing to recreate this ambiance."
This collaboration was a celebration of artistry, heritage, and the natural charm of the Auberge McGowan wedding venue. From the curated tablescape to the striking floral centerpiece, each element was thoughtfully designed to inspire couples seeking an intimate yet elegant wedding setting.
